1Who runs it

Captr. is organised by ZELX. ZELX is the only organiser. Captr. comes from the team behind Run for Maldives, the 2020 virtual run.

2Season 1 dates

Season 1 runs 1 Nov – 31 Dec 2026 (Maldives time). A season lasts two months.

Only runs made during the season count. Zones, leaderboards and challenge progress start from zero each season.

4One entry, every city

One entry covers all launch cities and maps: Kulhudhuffushi, Malé City, Laamu Atoll, Fuvahmulah, Addu City.

You choose a home city when you sign up. Your home city decides which island leaderboard you appear on (residents only). You can still run and capture zones in any city.

5Capturing zones

Each city map is split into zones. Every km you run inside a zone is added to your total for that zone.

The runner with the most km in a zone this season owns it. Ownership can change at any time during the season. Whoever owns it when the season closes keeps it.

Tie-break: fastest timing. If two runners have exactly the same km in a zone, the one with the faster time for those km (lower average time per km in that zone) wins. Team zones use the same rule with the team's pooled km and time.

6Teams of 5

You can run on your own, in a team, or both. A team has exactly 5 runners. A team only counts on the boards and maps once all 5 have joined.

Team km are pooled: every member's km in a zone count towards the team's total there. Your km still count for you individually too. You can be in one team at a time.

7Runs that count

Record your run with GPS in any app or watch (Strava, Garmin, Nike Run Club, Apple Watch, Coros and others), then upload the GPX file on the Upload run page. TCX files work too. Automatic Garmin sync is coming soon.

The file must contain GPS points with timestamps. Files without them, screenshots and hand-typed runs are not accepted. Each run can only be uploaded once.

Every upload is checked automatically. These are flagged for admin review and do not count until approved:

  • runs faster than a realistic running pace (average under 2:30 per km)
  • big GPS jumps (sudden moves no runner could make)
  • runs recorded outside the season dates

Only upload your own runs. No cycling, driving or other activities. Your km and moving time are added to each zone your route passes through.

Export from Strava: on strava.com open the activity, tap ⋯ and choose Export GPX.

8Medals

100K Challenge: medals at 50, 100 and 200 km of verified running in the season. Same targets in every city.

Territory medals: when the season closes, each zone awards two medals: one to the individual owner and one to the team owner.

Claim your medals on your profile. Medal shipping is free.

9City vs City

Cities are ranked by the average km per runner (total verified km of its entered runners divided by the number of runners), so small and big cities compete fairly. Runners of the top city earn the Champion City badge.

10Kids' zones

Kids under 13 take part through a parent-managed profile: nickname only, no photo, no messaging. Kids run in separate kids' zones and have their own medals (10, 25 and 50 km). Kids' Zones

11ID check

Maldivian runners: a national ID card number (the letter A followed by 6 digits, e.g. A123456) is mandatory.

Foreign runners and visitors: your passport number is required.

Everyone gives their full legal name (as on the ID or passport) before paying an entry, opening the maps or uploading runs. One account per ID or passport. Your legal name and ID are private and only admins see them; boards show your display name.

ID helps us keep one account per person and fair results. How we handle personal data is described in the Privacy Policy.

12Fair play and review

Our admin team reviews flagged runs and suspicious activity, and can approve or reject runs. Cheating, such as running on someone else's account, using a vehicle, sharing accounts or creating extra accounts, can lead to rejected runs, lost zones and medals, or removal from the season.

13Changes and contact

ZELX may update these rules before or during the season, for example to adjust zone boundaries or the pace limit. Important changes will be announced on the site.
